French prosecutors on Monday requested a four-year prison sentence for Moroccan-born former culture minister Rachida Dati in a corruption case linked to the Renault-Nissan group.
The prosecution called for two years of the sentence to be served under electronic monitoring at home and also sought a five-year ban on Dati holding public office.
Dati, 60, is accused of corruption and influence peddling over her work for Renault-Nissan while she was a member of the European Parliament between 2009 and 2013.
The case centers on €900,000 in payments Dati received from a Netherlands-based Renault-Nissan subsidiary while she was an MEP. Prosecutors allege the payments were linked to lobbying work for the carmaker.
Former Renault-Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn is being tried alongside Dati in the Paris case. Prosecutors have requested a four-year prison sentence for Ghosn, who is being tried in absentia and lives in Lebanon.
Dati, who previously served as France’s justice minister, remains mayor of Paris’ seventh arrondissement.
The Paris criminal court is expected to issue its ruling in the coming months.
