Spanish travel agencies report no cancellations to Morocco after Ceuta crisis

Spanish travel agencies have reported no cancellations of tourist bookings to Morocco following the mass migrant crossing into the Spanish-occupied enclave of Ceuta in late July, according to the Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies.

The confederation, known by its Spanish acronym CEAV, said bookings and tourism activity between Spain and Morocco have continued normally, including group travel and business trips.

CEAV President José Manuel Lastra told tourism publication Hosteltur that Spanish tour operators continue to work on joint tourism programs between Spain and Morocco.

Operators specializing in Morocco reported a slight decline in new bookings during the first days of the crisis, but no cancellations, Lastra said.

Airlines reported a similar trend, with bookings slowing slightly at the beginning of the crisis while flights continued to operate at strong levels, he said.

“We can therefore confirm that there are no signs of a wave of cancellations to Morocco,” Lastra said, while acknowledging that Ceuta’s tourism sector had been affected. Tourism accounts for more than 12% of the enclave’s annual gross domestic product, he said.

Lastra said CEAV did not want to minimize the potential impact of developments affecting tourism but wanted to base its assessment on accurate data.

Meanwhile, CEAV data showed that revenue generated by Spanish travel agencies and tour operators increased 7.2% during the first half of 2026, compared with 3.9% growth during the same period a year earlier.

Spain received more than 44 million international tourists during the first half of 2026, an increase of 3.1% from the same period in 2025, according to the data cited by CEAV.

Employment in Spain’s travel agency sector also increased 14.6% in the second quarter compared with the first quarter.
