Moroccan forward Tawfik Bentayeb of RSC Anderlecht, who was substituted on Saturday after being hit in the face during the match against Zulte Waregem, has been deemed medically fit to join the Moroccan national team, the Brussels club announced on Monday.
“After thorough medical examinations, RSC Anderlecht forward Tawfik Bentayeb has been deemed medically fit to join the Moroccan national team,” the club said in a statement.
As a precaution, Bentayeb was taken to the emergency room on Saturday, where, “after a few hours of observation, the test results came back normal,” RSC Anderlecht reported, noting that the Moroccan player was able to leave the hospital at 2 a.m.
The Brussels club emphasized that Bentayeb’s call-up to the Moroccan national team is therefore not in jeopardy, and he is authorized to make the trip.
In accordance with FIFA’s medical protocol on concussions, Bentayeb will, however, have to follow an individualized recovery program over the next seven to ten days and will not be able to play in Morocco’s first match, scheduled for Friday.
Bentayeb is among the 29 players called up by national team coach Mohamed Ouahbi for the Atlas Lions’ upcoming training camp, which begins this Monday in preparation for matches against Gabon, Lesotho, and Ghana.
