Moroccan authorities have reinforced security around Fnideq and routes toward Ceuta following social media calls for another mass crossing into the Spanish enclave, sources familiar with the measures said.
Checkpoints on roads leading to Tetouan and Fnideq are monitoring movements by people suspected of seeking to cross irregularly, while security personnel are deployed throughout Fnideq’s streets and along its shoreline.
The sources, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press, said border controls had remained in place throughout the crisis.
Security measures “have not been relaxed and have remained in place since the crisis began,” they said, describing continued vigilance alongside the reinforcements.
Patrols have intensified around routes and paths leading to the border crossing, with authorities seeking to prevent unauthorized gatherings and attempts to enter Ceuta by land or along the coast.
The preparations follow posts by anonymous accounts and pages encouraging young people, including minors, to attempt a collective crossing this month. The sources described the posts as spreading rumors and inaccurate information about the possibility of reaching the enclave.
Authorities are also continuing efforts to identify those promoting the calls online and investigate whether they have links to irregular migration or human trafficking networks, the sources said.
