Morocco has put 15 primary health care facilities into service across six regions after completing renovation and equipment work, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection said Tuesday.

The facilities are located in the Casablanca-Settat, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Beni Mellal-Khenifra, Oriental, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and Marrakech-Safi regions.

The ministry said the move is part of efforts to expand Morocco’s national health care network, improve the health system and bring essential medical services closer to residents.

It is also part of a national program to rehabilitate 1,600 primary health care facilities, including 500 in 2026, as Morocco works to expand social protection coverage and improve the quality of basic health services, according to the ministry.

In the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region, four facilities have resumed or begun services in the provinces of Azilal and Khenifra. Three are located in Azilal — Kimi, Bouharazne and Ait Ouirar — while the Sidi Bouabad health center serves Khenifra province.

The Marrakech-Safi region added five facilities in Chichaoua province: the Level 2 urban health center in Imintanout, the Level 2 rural health center in Aderouane, the Level 1 rural health center in Mzouda, and the two rural dispensaries of Bouzouka and Laadailat.

In the Oriental region, three facilities entered service in Guercif and Berkane provinces. They include the Level 1 rural health center of Ouled Saleh and the Souihela rural dispensary in Guercif, as well as the Level 1 urban Al Quds health center in Berkane.

In Casablanca-Settat, the Dar Bouazza Level 1 urban health center in Nouaceur province entered service.

The Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region also added the Level 2 rural health center of Beni Jmil Maksouline in Al Hoceima province.

In Guelmim-Oued Noun, a tuberculosis and respiratory diseases diagnosis center in Guelmim province began operating. The center is designed to support early detection and diagnosis of tuberculosis, as well as treatment and follow-up for tuberculosis and respiratory disease patients.

The ministry said the facilities are part of a new generation of primary health care institutions and are expected to serve more than 375,677 people.

They are intended to improve access to health care, respond to growing demand for primary services and improve reception and patient guidance, the ministry said.

The facilities have been equipped with what the ministry described as high-quality biomedical equipment and staffed by 50 health professionals.

Services include general medical consultations, nursing care, monitoring of chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, and respiratory disease management.

The facilities will also provide maternal and child health services, school health programs, health education and awareness campaigns, epidemiological surveillance and mobile health services, according to the ministry.
