The proceedings of the 166th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level began on Monday at the Organization’s headquarters in Cairo, with the participation of Morocco.
Led by Morocco’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the League of Arab States, Mohamed Ait Ouali, the Moroccan delegation attending the meeting includes the Director of Arab, Maghrebi, and Islamic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Khalid Bencheikh; the Head of the Division of Arab and Islamic Organizations within the same ministry, Abderrahim Ait Slimane; Foreign Affairs Advisor Salma El Azrak; and Foreign Affairs Secretary at the Kingdom’s Permanent Representation to the League, Ikram Belarbi.
The session’s agenda includes several political, economic, social, cultural, and legal items, including the Palestinian issue and Iranian attacks against Arab countries.
It also includes the appointment of chairpersons for several permanent committees of the Council—elected on the sidelines of the session—notably the Human Rights Committee, the Meteorology Committee, the Permanent Committee on Information, and the International Humanitarian Law Committee, as well as the appointment of judges to the Arab League Administrative Tribunal.
The proceedings of the Council of the League of Arab States were preceded by a meeting of the Arab Ministerial Committee tasked with international action to confront illegal Israeli policies and measures in occupied Al-Quds, as well as a consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers.
