The United Arab Emirates suspended all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice, the UAE Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
Afra Al Hameli, the ministry’s strategic communications director, said regional developments threatened international peace and security. She gave no implementation details or exemptions.
Al Hameli said the UAE remained committed to dialogue while protecting the integrity of the international financial system and complying with international law.
The suspension follows UAE accusations that Iran attacked several vessels linked to state oil company ADNOC in the Strait of Hormuz last week.
Iran imported about $21 billion in goods from the UAE in 2024, accounting for 30.6% of its total imports, according to World Trade Organization data.
The UAE has long served as a commercial and financial gateway for Iranian businesses.
