Moroccan passport reaches 82 destinations as global rankings diverge

Morocco’s passport ranks 109th worldwide in Passport Reports’ August 2026 index, giving holders access to 82 destinations without securing a conventional visa before departure, according to data updated on August 14.

The result marks a decline from 103rd place and a mobility score of 84 in 2025, based on the platform’s historical series. The score now comprises 41 visa-free destinations, 37 offering visas on arrival, and four requiring an electronic travel authorization, or eTA. Another 116 destinations require a visa or other approval before travel.

The latest decline interrupts a broader improvement from 2020, when Morocco ranked 112th with a mobility score of 57. Its score rose to 81 by 2023 and peaked at 84 in 2024 and 2025.

The four eTA destinations are Ghana, Seychelles, South Korea and Sri Lanka. Visa-free access is concentrated in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Oceania, with permitted stays generally ranging from 30 to 120 days.

African destinations include Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo, Tunisia and Zambia.

Morocco places fifth among Africa’s 54 passports, behind Seychelles, Mauritius, South Africa and Botswana. It ranks seventh among the Arab League’s 22 members, following the six Gulf Cooperation Council states.

Despite that regional position, Moroccan travelers still need advance authorization for 58.6% of the 198 destinations assessed. The list includes the United States, Canada, Britain, Japan and Australia, most European countries and all six GCC states. Passport Reports classifies electronic visas requiring approval before departure as visa-required access, even when the application is completed online.

The ranking differs sharply from other widely cited indexes because providers use different destination sets, visa categories and tie-breaking rules. Passport Reports assigns a mobility point for visa-free entry, a visa on arrival or an eTA. Ties are broken first by the number of visa-free destinations, followed by eTA access and visas on arrival.

By comparison, the latest Henley Passport Index places Morocco 67th with access to 71 destinations. Henley tracks 199 passports against 227 destinations using International Air Transport Association data.

Arton Capital’s Passport Index places Morocco 62nd with the same mobility score of 82 recorded by Passport Reports.
