Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology issued an orange-level weather alert for Sunday, August 16, forecasting locally heavy thunderstorms, hail and strong wind gusts across nine eastern and northern provinces.
Rainfall of 20 to 35 millimeters is expected between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. in Jerada, Driouch, Guercif, Berkane, Taza, Taourirt, Al Hoceima, Oujda-Angad and Nador, the directorate said.
The warning covers parts of the Oriental region and the northeastern Rif, where intense rainfall over a short period could disrupt travel and cause localized flooding in low-lying areas.
