Peru has waived tourist visa requirements for Moroccan citizens holding valid Schengen or United States visas, easing travel conditions for a limited category of Moroccan passport holders.
The measure was formalised under Supreme Decree 033-2026-RE, published on July 25 in Peru’s official gazette, El Peruano, and applies to Moroccan nationals travelling with valid ordinary passports.
Eligible travellers may remain in Peru for up to 183 calendar days within a one-year period, either during a single continuous stay or through several visits.
Both the Moroccan passport and the qualifying Schengen or US visa must remain valid for at least six months at the time of entry into Peruvian territory.
The exemption applies only to the tourist immigration category. Moroccans who do not hold a valid Schengen or US visa must continue to obtain a Peruvian visa before travelling.
The decree therefore does not amount to a complete abolition of visa requirements for all Moroccan citizens.
Peruvian authorities said the decision was based partly on reciprocity. Morocco waived tourist visa requirements for Peruvian ordinary-passport holders in 2017, according to the decree’s explanatory section.
The measure could make Peru more accessible to Moroccan tourists who already travel regularly to Europe or the United States, while supporting tourism and closer ties between the two countries.
Peru joins a number of countries that use possession of a valid Schengen or US visa as an additional screening condition for travellers who would otherwise require a national visa.
