At least three people were killed and 24 others injured, several of them critically, in a serious traffic accident that occurred Monday in the Ouchtam area on the outskirts of Tetouan, according to an initial unofficial toll.

According to available information, the accident took place after an excavator secured on a truck transporting heavy machinery came loose and fell onto a passenger bus carrying dozens of people.

Witnesses said three people died at the scene as a result of the impact, while 24 passengers sustained injuries and were transferred to Tetouan Regional Hospital for treatment. Five of the injured were reported to be in critical condition and were admitted to the hospital’s emergency department.

The accident prompted a large-scale response from local authorities, the Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection teams, supported by ambulances. Rescue workers evacuated victims and freed several passengers trapped inside the bus, while security forces secured the area and managed traffic.

The Royal Gendarmerie has opened an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident and establish responsibility.
