Three major wildfires burned about 628 hectares across Morocco last week, up nearly 30 hectares from the previous estimate, Hespress reported on July 20, citing National Agency for Water and Forests data recorded on Sunday evening.

The Slilmit fire in Ounain, Taroudant province, accounted for 403 hectares and was fully contained, although crews remained deployed until complete extinction.

Firefighters also brought the Baanter blaze in El Ksiba, Beni Mellal province, under control, while the Anfek fire in Afourar, Azilal province, was 75% contained after its largest fronts were extinguished.

About 1,182 personnel were mobilised across the three operations, including forest agency teams, the Royal Gendarmerie, armed forces, auxiliary forces, civil protection units and local residents.

Eight Canadair aircraft supported the response. Two planes assigned to the Azilal fire completed 34 aerial sorties as ground crews worked to contain the remaining hotspots.
