A 70-year-old woman died after allegedly being assaulted by her 40-year-old son in Douar Chouirif, part of the commune of Moulay Abdellah in El Jadida province, according to local sources.
Members of the Royal Gendarmerie’s territorial unit in Moulay Abdellah intervened after receiving a report of a violent altercation inside the family home involving the suspect and his mother.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, while the victim, who had sustained serious injuries, was rushed to Mohammed V Provincial Hospital in El Jadida for emergency treatment.
She later succumbed to her injuries, the sources said.
The Royal Gendarmerie has opened an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances and motives behind the incident and establish all the facts surrounding the case.
The investigation remains ongoing.
