The Royal Moroccan Navy frigate Mohammed VI arrived in New York on Thursday to participate in the International Naval Review 250 (INR 250), held as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, according to a statement from U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa.
The international maritime event will be held in the Port of New York and New Jersey from July 3 to July 8, bringing together naval vessels and delegations from partner countries.
The Moroccan frigate crossed the Atlantic Ocean to take part in the review, a voyage that required careful navigation, continuous maintenance, detailed logistical planning and reliable communications, the statement said.
Several African countries are also participating in the event. Senegal is represented by its offshore patrol vessel Niani, while Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon have sent naval and senior-level delegations. Equatorial Guinea and Kenyaare also participating through national delegations.
According to U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, Morocco’s participation reflects years of military cooperation between the Royal Moroccan Navy and the United States through joint training, exercises and professional exchanges.
“Our African partners’ participation in the International Naval Review 250 reflects the enduring relationships built through years of professional exchange, shared training and cooperation at sea,” Adm. George Wikoff, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Africa, said in the statement.
Wikoff said the event provides participating navies with an opportunity to exchange expertise on leadership, logistics and maritime security while strengthening operational interoperability.
“By strengthening interoperability, we are better prepared to protect vital sea lanes, support legitimate commerce, and respond to the maritime security challenges we share,” he said.
