A Moroccan parliamentary delegation took part Saturday at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo in the 8th Conference of the Arab Parliament and Speakers of Arab Councils and Parliaments.
The Moroccan delegation, participating in this conference organized by the Arab Parliament in partnership with the Arab Parliamentary Union, includes, among others, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohamed Sabbari, and member of the House of Councillors and Chairman of the Arab Parliament’s Economic and Financial Committee Mohamed El Bakkour.
This event is one of the main Arab parliamentary forums dedicated to coordinating positions and unifying perspectives on priority Arab issues.
This session’s agenda includes the examination of three strategic issues related to Arab national security, notably Iran’s blatant attacks against Arab countries, the Palestinian question, and Arab digital sovereignty.
Speaking at the conference, Sabbari emphasized that these three themes concern “interconnected challenges facing our Arab nation, to which we are called upon to provide collective responses in order to safeguard our present, our national security, and prepare for the future.”
He reaffirmed Morocco’s support for a unified Arab position to protect the sovereignty and stability of Arab states, stressing respect for territorial integrity and non-interference. He also reiterated Morocco’s commitment to the Palestinian cause under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, and highlighted the Kingdom’s progress in cybersecurity and digital governance, calling for stronger Arab digital sovereignty.
For his part, Speaker of the Arab Parliament Mohamed Ahmed Al Yamahi noted in his opening address that Arab parliaments bear a historic responsibility during this delicate phase to unify Arab positions and support the efforts of Arab States to protect their national security, safeguard their sovereignty, and defend their supreme interests and core causes.
He noted that the Palestinian issue will remain the primary and central cause of the Arab nation, condemning the ongoing serious crimes and violations committed against Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as the repeated attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Al-Quds and attempts to alter its historical and legal status and erase its Arab, Islamic, and Christian identity.
At the close of the conference, several parliamentary resolutions were adopted, reflecting a unified Arab parliamentary position on the issues on the agenda, including the preservation of Arab national security, the fight against attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause, and the adoption of an Arab parliamentary vision aimed at strengthening Arab digital sovereignty.
