Morocco and Spain are intensifying efforts to secure hosting rights for the 2030 FIFA World Cup final, as competition grows between the two co-host nations ahead of the tournament.
According to reports in the British media, both countries are actively promoting their respective bids to FIFA in hopes of staging the tournament’s showcase match. The 2030 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal.
Morocco is backing the future Grand Stade Hassan II, currently under construction near Casablanca. With a planned capacity of 115,000 spectators, the venue is expected to become the largest football stadium in the world.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation views the project as a major asset in its bid to host the final, arguing that the occasion would provide Africa with another historic moment on football’s biggest stage, two decades after the continent hosted its first World Cup in 2010 in South Africa.
Spain, meanwhile, is championing the renovated Santiago Bernabéu Stadium as its preferred venue for the final. The Royal Spanish Football Federation has highlighted the stadium’s global reputation, Spain’s extensive experience organizing major sporting events and Madrid’s modern infrastructure as key advantages.
Spanish officials argue that the capital is well-equipped to accommodate the large number of supporters, media representatives and visitors expected for the tournament’s most prestigious match.
Sources familiar with the process indicate that neither bid currently holds a clear advantage and that both candidacies are being viewed as equally competitive. The choice of venue for the final has reportedly emerged as the most significant unresolved issue among the three co-host nations, while the broader distribution of matches is largely understood to have been settled.
Morocco is seeking to capitalize on the modernity of its new infrastructure and the symbolic significance of bringing a World Cup final to Casablanca. Spain, in contrast, is relying on the historical prestige and international profile of the Bernabéu, one of football’s most recognizable stadiums.
The final decision will rest with FIFA, which is expected to weigh the sporting, logistical and symbolic merits of both proposals before selecting the host venue for the tournament’s centerpiece event.
With four years remaining until kickoff, the contest to host the 2030 World Cup final underscores the significance of a tournament that will mark the first time the competition is jointly staged by Morocco, Spain and Portugal.
