Morocco could not have asked for a better start against Scotland, with Ismael Saibari scoring after just 71 seconds to give the Atlas Lions an early lead and set the fastest-goal mark of the 2026 FIFA World Cup so far.

The Moroccan national team imposed its rhythm from the opening whistle, taking control of possession just 14 seconds into the match before turning its dominance into a goal moments later.

Saibari finished off a well-worked move with a composed touch inside the box after receiving a precise pass from Ibrahim Diaz, sending the ball into the Scottish net and putting Morocco ahead after only 71 seconds of play.

The goal is the fastest scored at the 2026 World Cup to date and underlined Morocco’s strong start in a match carrying major implications for the top spot in Group C.

Saibari’s strike also surpassed a previous Moroccan milestone set by Hakim Ziyech at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Ziyech had scored against Canada in the fourth minute of Morocco’s group-stage match, a goal that stood as the fastest by an Arab player in World Cup history.

The Bayern Munich-bound midfielder continued his impressive run with the national team after also finding the net in Morocco’s opening 1-1 draw against Brazil earlier in the tournament.

Morocco entered the match seeking a victory that would significantly strengthen its chances of advancing to the knockout stage and potentially move it into first place in the group.
