Moroccan authorities have arrested the main suspect in a fatal burglary that took place in Paris in 2024, marking a major development in a cross-border investigation that has involved close cooperation between French and Moroccan law enforcement agencies.

According to French and Moroccan judicial sources, the suspect is currently the subject of extradition proceedings initiated by French authorities.

The case stems from a nighttime break-in in June 2024 at a social hotel in Paris’s 11th arrondissement. During the burglary, a 64-year-old night watchman was found dead inside his lodge with his hands and feet bound.

Investigators believe the suspects targeted a large safe located within the building. Authorities said the group attempted to remove the safe but later abandoned it on a nearby street due to its weight.

French police quickly identified several suspects through video surveillance footage and mobile phone data analysis. In July 2024, investigators arrested a 26-year-old suspect who later admitted during questioning in October 2025 that he had acted as a lookout during the operation. His testimony helped investigators reconstruct key aspects of the burglary.

The investigation subsequently led authorities to the alleged ringleader, who was located and arrested in Morocco. French prosecutors have since launched extradition procedures to return him to France, where he is expected to face charges related to homicide and other offenses connected to the burglary.

In a separate development, a former police officer suspected of providing information to members of the burglary team was released under judicial supervision by a Paris court. Prosecutors maintain that serious evidence links him to the case, while his defense team disputes the allegations.

The arrest in Morocco represents a significant breakthrough in the investigation and highlights ongoing judicial and security cooperation between Morocco and France in combating serious transnational crime.
