Moroccan athletics star Soufiane El Bakkali continued his strong form by winning the 3000m steeplechase at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting on Sunday, June 7.
The Moroccan champion finished first with a time of 8:10.40, ahead of Kenya’s Edmund Serem, who came second in 8:12.27, and Abraham Kibiwot, who took third place in 8:12.75. Morocco’s Salah Eddine Ben Yazide also delivered a solid performance, finishing fourth in 8:13.02, while Abderrafia Bouassel did not complete the race with no official reason immediately reported.
This victory comes shortly after El Bakkali’s success at the Rabat Diamond League, where he opened his season with an impressive time of 7:57.25.
El Bakkali’s latest win adds to an already exceptional career. The Moroccan athlete is a two-time Olympic champion, after winning gold in Tokyo 2021 and defending his title in Paris 2024.
He is also a two-time world champion, having won the 3000m steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene in 2022 and Budapest in 2023.
In addition, he won the Diamond League Final and has also collected world silver medals earlier in his career. His achievements are particularly significant because he helped end Kenya’s long dominance in the 3000m steeplechase, a discipline historically controlled by Kenyan runners.
With back-to-back victories in Rabat and Stockholm, El Bakkali continues to build momentum in the Diamond League circuit.
