Morocco drew 1-1 with Norway in an international friendly on Sunday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, as both teams continued preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The match opened at a high tempo, with both sides enjoying spells of possession in a balanced first half.
Morocco took the lead in the eighth minute when Brahim Díaz finished off a well-worked move following a strong run by Abde Ezzalzouli.
The Atlas Lions suffered a setback before halftime as both Noussair Mazraoui and Ezzalzouli were forced off with injuries. The extent of their injuries remains unclear, raising questions over their availability for Morocco’s World Cup opener against Brazil next week.
Norway increased the pressure after the break in search of an equalizer, while Morocco looked dangerous on the counterattack.
The Norwegian side was rewarded in the 75th minute when captain Martin Ødegaard scored to level the match at 1-1.
Neither team was able to find a winner, and the contest ended in a draw.
Morocco has been drawn into a challenging World Cup group alongside Brazil national football team, Scotland national football team and Haiti national football team.
The Atlas Lions will begin their 2026 World Cup campaign against Brazil on June 13 at MetLife Stadium. They will then face Scotland on June 19 at Gillette Stadium before concluding the group stage against Haiti on June 24 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
