A human resources official at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport denied any involvement in the alleged theft of more than 600 mobile phones during a court hearing on Tuesday, as judges questioned him over accusations that he played a leading role in the operation.

The defendant, identified as Mohamed M., is among several individuals facing charges linked to the disappearance of a shipment of mobile phones destined for an African country. Prosecutors allege the suspects were involved in an organized criminal network and the possession of goods obtained illegally.

Appearing before the Casablanca Court of Appeal, the defendant rejected all allegations and denied any connection to the theft of the phones, which had arrived from a Gulf country.

Mohamed M. told the court that his responsibilities at Mohammed V Airport were limited to administrative and human resources matters and that he had no role in cargo handling or shipment monitoring operations. He also denied any relationship with the other defendants in the case.

Judges confronted him with statements contained in judicial police reports in which other suspects allegedly described him as the operation’s mastermind. The defendant rejected those claims, saying he had previously denied them before investigators and maintained the same position before the court.

The case stems from the alleged theft of more than 600 mobile phones from the airport’s cargo area. The shipment is estimated to be worth more than 1.5 million dirhams.

The defendants are being prosecuted on charges including theft committed within an airport under aggravating circumstances and concealing goods obtained through a felony.
