Morocco’s cement sales edged down 0.12% year on year to 4.52 million tonnes in the first four months of 2026, reflecting uneven momentum across the construction sector as large infrastructure projects offset weaker housing demand.
Data released by the Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy showed deliveries linked to distribution accounted for the largest share at 2.4 million tonnes, followed by ready mixed concrete with 1.19 million tonnes and prefabricated concrete products with roughly 441,000 tonnes.
Infrastructure related demand reached nearly 317,000 tonnes, while building activity accounted for about 145,000 tonnes. Mortar sales totaled just over 20,000 tonnes.
The figures nonetheless showed a stronger rebound in April alone, with cement deliveries rising 31.8% year on year to 1.5 million tonnes compared with 1.14 million tonnes in April 2025, according to data compiled from members of the Association professionnelle des cimentiers.
The cement sector is closely watched as a proxy for construction and investment activity in Morocco, particularly as Rabat accelerates spending on highways, rail infrastructure, ports and industrial platforms tied to automotive, battery and renewable energy projects, as well as preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
At the same time, parts of the residential real estate market continue to face pressure from higher borrowing costs and weaker household purchasing power following several years of inflation and drought.
The market is dominated by major producers including LafargeHolcim Maroc, Ciments du Maroc, Ciments de l’Atlas and Asment Temara.
