A Canadian court has ordered Moroccan TikTok personality Hicham Gerando to remove videos and online posts targeting two Moroccan security and judicial officials after finding him liable in a defamation case, according to rulings issued by Quebec’s Superior Court.
The court ordered Gerando, who lives in Canada, to delete the content and barred further publication of what it described as defamatory material directed at a deputy public prosecutor at Casablanca’s Ain Sebaa criminal court and Tetouan police chief Mohamed Oulidi.
The ruling, issued Wednesday, also ordered Gerando to pay damages of 100,000 Canadian dollars to each plaintiff, in addition to 5,000 Canadian dollars in punitive damages for each official over harm linked to the publications.
The case adds to a series of legal proceedings launched against the Moroccan content creator in Canadian courts over online accusations and videos targeting Moroccan public figures and institutions.
Quebec’s Superior Court had previously sentenced Gerando to one month in prison, 150 hours of community service and a fine of 10,000 Canadian dollars in a separate case brought by Moroccan judge Abderrahim Hanine, who accused the TikTok creator of defamation.
