Royal Air Maroc does not plan to suspend or alter flights to African countries facing Ebola related concerns, a source familiar with the matter told Hespress, as the World Health Organization maintained its assessment that the outbreak risk remains regional rather than global.
“There is no suspension or change to flights toward any African country at this stage,” the source said, adding that no exceptional measures had been introduced by the Moroccan carrier.
The comments come after the World Health Organization said Wednesday that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo still represents a high risk nationally and regionally but does not constitute a global public health emergency.
WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the outbreak remained contained within current international risk thresholds, while emergency committee officials said the situation did not meet pandemic criteria.
Some countries have nonetheless tightened precautions. Bahrain recently restricted entry for non citizens arriving from Congo, Uganda and South Sudan or those who had recently traveled there.
Morocco has not announced comparable restrictions, and the source said current conditions did not justify extraordinary aviation measures.
