Morocco is seeing rising interest from Russian tourists ahead of the 2026 summer season, with Russian media and travel industry reports pointing to a sharp increase in bookings compared with last year as travelers seek alternative destinations viewed as stable and easily accessible.
Russian travel platform Russian Express reported that bookings to Morocco for summer 2026 were up by around 38%, placing the kingdom among the fastest growing destinations for Russian travelers alongside Turkey, Serbia, China and Cyprus.
Reports said destinations such as Agadir, Marrakech and Casablanca were benefiting from the surge, driven by Morocco’s beach tourism, cultural attractions and desert destinations, as well as expanded air connectivity with international markets. Russian Express said Agadir alone accounted for more than 70% of Russian summer bookings to Morocco.
Some reports linked the shift to regional geopolitical tensions and changing travel patterns among Russian tourists, with travelers increasingly moving away from traditional destinations in southern Europe and parts of the Gulf.
The reported increase comes as Morocco continues to expand its tourism sector ahead of the 2030 World Cup, which it will co host with Spain and Portugal. The country received a record 19.8 million tourists in 2025, up 14% year on year, according to official tourism ministry figures reported by Reuters.
