Moroccan and U.S. forces have recovered the body of one of two American soldiers reported missing earlier this month during a military exercise in southern Morocco, the Royal Armed Forces said.
The soldier went missing on May 2 while participating in African Lion 2026 near the rocky coastline of Cap Draa.
In a statement, the Royal Armed Forces said the body was located and recovered Saturday at approximately 8:55 a.m. through a joint operation involving Moroccan military units and the civil protection services, with support from land, naval and air teams.
Preliminary findings identified the deceased as First Lieutenant Kendrick Lamont Key Jr..
The body was transported by helicopter to the military hospital in Guelmim, where it was placed in the morgue in accordance with established procedures pending repatriation.
Search and rescue operations remain ongoing to locate the second U.S. soldier, who has also been missing since May 2.
