Ahmed Reda Chami formally presented his credentials on Wednesday to Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels, officially beginning his tenure as Morocco’s ambassador to the European Union.
Chami was received by the heads of the European Council and the European Commission during a ceremony marking his accreditation as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the bloc.

Relations between Morocco and the EU are governed by the 1996 Association Agreement, which established the framework for political, economic and trade cooperation between Rabat and Brussels and has since evolved into what both sides describe as a strategic partnership.
Morocco remains one of the EU’s main partners in the southern Mediterranean across trade, migration, energy and security cooperation, although ties have also faced periodic tensions linked to agriculture agreements, fisheries and legal disputes concerning the Sahara.
King Mohammed VI appointed Chami to the post during a ministerial council held at the royal palace in Rabat in October 2024.
