“An open, frank, and calm dialogue remains the best way to address common challenges, seize emerging opportunities, and build a prosperous future,” emphasized Morocco’s ambassador to the European Union and NATO, Ahmed Reda Chami, following the European Parliament’s adoption on Thursday of a resolution on the events that took place in late July in Sebta.

Chami told MAP that migration management requires “daily operational commitment, constant dialogue, and the search for common and sustainable solutions.”

In this regard, he noted that the European Parliament’s resolution on the events in Sebta “contains no accusations or demands directed at Morocco and does not endorse any attempts to exploit the migration issue.”

The ambassador also stressed that “many hostile amendments were ultimately not adopted, thanks to the responsible, constructive, and level-headed approach taken by the majority of MEPs, particularly those from the European Parliament’s main political groups.”

Chami further deplored the fact that “communication and propaganda campaigns are attempting to attribute to the text provisions or stances that it does not contain.”

The resolution adopted by the European Parliament received 339 votes in favor, 225 against, and 16 abstentions, less than half of the European Parliament’s membership.
