Morocco orders sports clubs using foreign team names to rebrand mid-season
Thursday 23 April 2026 - 16:01

Moroccan local authorities have issued verbal instructions to sports clubs using names of foreign teams to change their identities, forcing some to suspend activities until they comply, sources told Hespress.

Several associations in recent days were told by local officials to halt operations pending the submission of new registration files reflecting updated names.

The measures have affected clubs across multiple provinces, including those affiliated with regional football leagues.

Clubs bearing names linked to well-known foreign teams were also instructed to stop using jerseys displaying those identities, with some denied access to training grounds and stadiums until they rebrand.

Sports academies in several cities have also been asked to suspend activities and modify both names and logos before resuming, with some continuing youth sessions without official kits.
