Morocco’s transport minister held talks Wednesday with a senior European Commission official to deepen cooperation in aviation, with a particular focus on developing low-carbon air transport.
Abdessamad Kayouh met with Eddy Liégeois on the sidelines of an international civil aviation conference in Marrakech, where discussions centered on strengthening ties between Morocco and the European Union in the sector.
Kayouh said the meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm what he described as a strategic partnership with European counterparts, highlighting cooperation on future aviation fuels and efforts to move toward carbon-free aviation.
“We have always succeeded in resolving our differences and, more importantly, in strengthening relations between the European Union and Morocco, particularly in future aviation fuels,” he said in a statement after the talks.
The minister added that broader cooperation includes expanding air routes, reinforcing regulatory coordination and facilitating operating permits for airlines traveling between Morocco and EU countries.
Liégeois, who represents EU member states on aviation policy, said the bloc is committed to promoting free trade and advancing decarbonized aviation, noting Morocco’s growing role in the sector.
He described Morocco as a key partner for Europe in Africa, emphasizing its strategic importance in strengthening aviation links between the two regions.
The meeting comes as Morocco and the European Union continue to build on a partnership agreement signed last year to conduct a scientific study on the production of sustainable aviation fuel in Morocco. Results of the study are expected in the coming months.
