Wednesday 15 April 2026 - 21:23

Bank Al-Maghrib has announced a nationwide plan to withdraw older series of banknotes from circulation, urging citizens to exchange them within a five-year period ending in 2030.

In a public notice issued in both Arabic and Amazigh, the central bank said the move concerns outdated banknotes in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 dirhams.

The exchange period runs from Jan. 1 of this year through Dec. 31, 2030. During that time, holders of the affected notes can replace them at Bank Al-Maghrib branches across the country, as well as through commercial banks.

The central bank stressed that the exchange process will be free of charge and without restrictions. Citizens will receive newly issued banknotes of equivalent value in return.

Bank Al-Maghrib called on the public to act promptly to replace the old notes before the deadline, after which they will be officially withdrawn from circulation.
