Protests grow over child torture allegations in Tindouf camps as activists demand justice

Rights groups in the Tindouf camps have stepped up protests in recent weeks over the case of a 13 year old boy, Mouloud El Mahjoub, who activists say was tortured and burned on Feb. 25, demanding an independent investigation and accountability for those responsible.

A new protest planned Tuesday outside the Polisario leadership headquarters in Rabouni was broken up, with rights sources accusing camp authorities of blocking demonstrators and ignoring calls for justice.

The campaign follows at least four earlier sit ins and has expanded to include appeals to international groups such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International.
