Morocco’s National Education Union, affiliated with the Moroccan Workers’ Union (UMT), has expelled local official Hassan Oumerbit from all union positions after an internal investigation found him guilty of forging union membership cards.
The union said Oumerbit’s actions violated its core principles of transparency and accountability, undermining its mission to serve educators.
“The misconduct went beyond forgery, including fraud, breach of trust, and spreading false information that damaged the union’s credibility,” the statement said.
Oumerbit’s membership had been temporarily suspended in early March, and a thorough internal probe later uncovered “clear and undeniable” evidence of wrongdoing. The union’s Ethics and National Arbitration Committee subsequently took final action, stripping him of all organizational and representative roles.
The union warned that any future claims made by Oumerbit in its name are legally void. The case has also been referred to UMT’s national office, which oversees membership cards, for further legal and administrative measures.
The union called on the Ministry of National Education, local partners, and authorities to disregard any claims by Oumerbit representing the union.
As part of the disciplinary measures, the Agadir branches of the union were dissolved. The union said the move aims to protect its reputation, maintain unity, and support members affected by the misconduct.
