Moroccans stranded in the Gaza Strip have renewed calls for evacuation as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate after more than two years of Israeli military operations.
The appeals come amid ongoing uncertainty over the status of the Rafah crossing, the enclave’s main gateway to the outside world. The crossing partially reopened on February 2 following a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, before being closed again by Israeli authorities on February 28. It has since reopened intermittently.
Moroccan nationals still in Gaza say the number of those awaiting evacuation remains significant. They include Palestinians married to Moroccan women who were previously evacuated in earlier operations organized by Rabat.
The stranded Moroccans are urging authorities to include these spouses in any future evacuation efforts, warning of the psychological, social and economic toll caused by family separation.
Repeated attempts by Hespress to reach an official at Morocco’s embassy in Palestine for comment went unanswered.
Morocco has already evacuated dozens of its citizens from Gaza in successive waves since the start of the conflict. However, those still trapped say many remain in urgent need of assistance as conditions in the besieged territory continue to worsen.
