Wydad Athletic Club has parted ways with head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem following the team’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup, a Hesport source familiar with the matter said Monday.

The decision comes after Wydad were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Olympic Safi, prompting the club’s management to move quickly in reshaping its technical staff.

According to the same source, Wydad has reached a final agreement with French coach Patrice Carteron to take over the team, with contract details in their final stages ahead of an official announcement expected in the coming hours.

The deal is set to run until the end of the current season, with an option to extend for an additional year. Carteron is already in Casablanca to finalize the remaining arrangements related to his appointment.

The coaching change comes just hours after Wydad’s continental exit. Despite the setback, the club remains competitive domestically, sitting second in the Moroccan league standings with 29 points, one behind leaders Raja Club Athletic, and holding three games in hand.
