Young Belgian-Moroccan talent from Ajax Amsterdam, Rayane Bounida, has chosen to represent Morocco instead of Belgium, according to several Belgian and Dutch media outlets.

Born in Vilvoorde, Belgium, 20-year-old Rayane Bounida informed the Belgian Football Federation that he now wishes to represent Morocco rather than the Red Devils, the same sources said.

According to reports, the Belgian Federation held multiple discussions with the player and his entourage in recent months in an attempt to convince him to continue representing Belgium, but Bounida ultimately confirmed that his heart was set on Morocco.

Gill Swerts, head coach of the U21 team, and Vincent Mannaert, sporting director, presented the Federation’s sporting project for the coming years to the rising Ajax star, but he reiterated his desire to represent Morocco.

Bounida, who was called up twice to Belgium’s U21 squad last year, has made 18 league appearances for Ajax this season, scoring one goal and providing four assists.
