Regional instability linked to tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States is prompting Russian tourists to reconsider traditional travel destinations, with Morocco emerging as a preferred alternative, according to data from Russian travel agencies.

Tour operators in Russia say the Russian’s touristic map has shifted rapidly following the crisis in the Middle East, with Morocco gaining ground over Gulf destinations. Cities such as Marrakech have seen a notable increase in demand, accompanied by a rise in flight bookings.

Airlines have responded by increasing capacity on routes to Marrakech and Agadir by between 10% and 20%, while also opening new indirect routes. The added competition is expected to contribute to lower ticket prices.

Russian travel platform Tourprom reported that Morocco is not the only destination benefiting from the shift, with places like the Dominican Republic and Mauritius also gaining popularity. However, Morocco remains a leading choice due to its security, mild climate and rich cultural appeal.

The Russian Tour Operators Association said Morocco has become a favored destination for Russian travelers this year, despite receiving less promotional attention compared to destinations such as Turkey, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. Demand for Morocco has reportedly doubled among some agencies.

According to Russian Express, the coastal city of Agadir accounts for more than 71% of summer bookings, followed by Casablanca and Marrakech. Trip costs noted a slight increase, partly due to higher costs for Russian-speaking tour guides.

Data also show that four-star hotels in Agadir represent about 71% of bookings, compared with 75% last year, while five-star hotels account for roughly 29%.

Earlier, Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin said regular flights between Russia and Middle Eastern countries would resume once airspace conditions are deemed safe. Russian aviation authorities have extended flight restrictions over Israeli and Iranian airspace through March 27, including transit routes.
