The management of Morocco’s AS FAR football club, in coordination with the Moroccan Embassy in Egypt, intervened to secure the release of several fans detained following clashes with Tunisian supporters, ahead of Saturday’s matches in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals.
According to a Hesport source familiar with the situation, some AS FAR fans clashed with supporters of Tunisia’s Esperance team on Friday, prior to their respective matches against Pyramids FC and Al Ahly, scheduled for Saturday in Cairo. Six fans from both sides were reportedly detained following the incidents.
The source said that intensive behind-the-scenes efforts by the club’s management and the Moroccan Embassy aimed to de-escalate the situation quickly and allow the fans to attend the crucial matches, which carry high stakes for advancement in the tournament.
The interventions underscore the importance of fan presence for the team and the broader diplomatic coordination to resolve sporting disputes involving Moroccan nationals abroad.
