Morocco’s consumer price index fell 0.6% in February from a year earlier, as lower food prices more than offset a rise in non food costs, the High Commission for Planning said on Tuesday.
In a note on February inflation, the HCP said the annual decline reflected a 2.0% drop in food prices and a 0.4% increase in non food prices. Within non food items, transport prices fell 2.7%, while miscellaneous goods and services rose 3.8%.
Compared with January, the CPI rose 0.5% in February, driven by a 0.8% increase in food prices and a 0.3% rise in non food prices. Fuel prices were up 3.1% on the month, while fish and seafood, fruit and meat also recorded increases.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile and state regulated prices, rose 0.2% month on month and fell 1.2% from a year earlier.
