India’s Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers revealed last week that the country imports around 2.5 million tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer from Morocco to mitigate supply risks and ensure uninterrupted supply, according to a press release from its Department of Fertilizers.

This is part of the Indian government’s efforts to sign long-term agreements and MoUs with various resource-rich countries to further strengthen the nation’s fertilizer supply chain in 2025–26

The list includes Saudi Arabia, which will provide 3.1 million tonnes annually, and Russia, with 3.01 million tonnes.

Also, India imported 22.28 million tonnes of DAP from China, its long-time main fertilizer partner, in 2023–24, and 8.47 million tonnes in 2024–25 to meet its agricultural needs.

The government stated that, from 1 October 2025 to 5 March 2026, the availability of urea, DAP, muriate of potash (MOP), and NPKS fertilizers has “remained sufficient to meet agricultural demand, and the country continues to maintain a comfortable stock position.”

In the first seven months of 2025, Morocco exported about $578 million worth of fertilizers to India, more than double the year-earlier figure, according to Indian trade ministry data cited by Russia’s RIA Novosti.

Also, OCP Nutricrops announced in July 2025 the start of a strategic research collaboration with the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) to advance customized and sustainable fertilization practices in India.
