Fuel station operators in Morocco received notices on Sunday saying pump prices would rise from midnight, with diesel set to increase by 2 dirhams per litre and gasoline by 1.44 dirhams, according to professional sources who spoke to Hespress.
Sources inside fuel stations told Hespress that the new distributor prices would take effect at the start of Monday, March 16, marking one of the sharpest increases in recent months.
A source cited by the National Federation of Fuel Station Owners, Traders and Managers said the rise would be decided by distribution companies, not by station operators themselves.
The same source said station operators had been notified only on Sunday, leaving them with no advance visibility on the size of the increase, similar to ordinary consumers.
The coming adjustment would push diesel and gasoline prices significantly above their current levels at filling stations across the country.
The move comes as global energy markets remain under pressure from the war involving Iran and from fears of disruption along key oil shipping routes, factors that analysts and traders have warned could drive crude prices rapidly toward $100 a barrel if supply tensions persist.
