Morocco on Wednesday awarded the first “Musée du Maroc” quality label to five museums during an official ceremony held at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat, the National Foundation of Museums said.
The distinction was granted to institutions that met standards set by a dedicated accreditation committee. The museums include the Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts and Crafts in Fez, the Bank Al Maghrib Museum in Rabat, and three museums in Marrakech: the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum and the Pierre Bergé Museum of Amazigh Arts.
The label is valid for four years and can be renewed. It certifies that recipient institutions comply with standards governing the preservation, management and promotion of museum heritage collections.
The initiative forms part of Morocco’s legal framework for museums established under Law 56.20 and Law 55.20 regulating the National Foundation of Museums.
Foundation president Mehdi Qotbi said the ceremony marked “a day of pride as we celebrate the first ‘Musée du Maroc’ labels awarded to institutions that embody the richness of our cultural heritage.”
Bank Al Maghrib governor Abdellatif Jouahri said the recognition reflects years of coordination with the foundation, adding that the museum seeks to remain open to all audiences, particularly students and young visitors interested in Morocco’s economic and cultural history.
