Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd, who plays for Olympique Marseille, will undergo surgery on Thursday to treat persistent groin pain (pubalgia), the Ligue 1 club has announced.
“For several weeks, the OM defender has been playing through pain, and discomfort has become too severe to continue under these conditions,” the French club said in a press release.
Despite the conservative treatment he has received, the club’s medical staff concluded that, given the progression of the condition, “surgery has become unavoidable,” after which the player will begin a rehabilitation program.
“Aguerd is very determined and will do everything possible to return to the field as quickly as possible in order to participate in the final sprint of the season with OM,” the club added, showcasing “full support” to its central defender.
