Kenitra: Police debunk viral claim of child kidnapping attempt
Monday 9 March 2026 - 13:11

Police in Kenitra have dismissed a viral audio message circulating on mobile messaging applications that alleged a child had been targeted in a kidnapping attempt in Jorf El Melha.

In a statement, the Kenitra Police Prefecture said the recording falsely claimed that a boy had been approached by a man and a woman wearing a face-covering veil.

Authorities said local police in Jorf El Melha opened a judicial inquiry and visited the location mentioned in the recording with the child and his mother to verify the claims.

The investigation determined that the alleged kidnapping attempt did not occur. According to police, the child had fabricated the story to persuade his mother to accompany him to and from school.

Police said they issued the clarification to inform the public and counter misinformation circulating online, while reaffirming their commitment to responding seriously to incidents that could affect public safety and citizens’ sense of security.
