The death toll from the crash of an Algerian Air Force aircraft has risen to four after two additional crew members died from their injuries, Algerian Ministry of National Defense said Saturday.

The two officers died Friday at the Algiers Military Hospital, the ministry said in a statement, bringing the total number of victims from the accident to four.

The aircraft, a small military transport plane identified as a Beechcraft 1900, crashed shortly after taking off Thursday from the Boufarik Air Base, about 30 kilometers south of Algiers.

At the time of the crash, six crew members were on board. Authorities said an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident.

On Friday, Saïd Chengriha, chief of staff of the Algerian People’s National Army, visited injured crew members at the military hospital, according to images broadcast by state media.

The crash revived memories of the deadliest aviation disaster in Algeria’s history. In 2018 Algerian Air Force Ilyushin Il-76 crash, a military transport plane crashed shortly after taking off from the same Boufarik base, killing 257 people, most of them soldiers and members of their families.
