Morocco retained its position as the European Union’s leading non member supplier of tomatoes at the end of 2025, accounting for 70.6 percent of EU tomato imports from third countries despite a drop in shipped volumes, according to a report by Spain’s Agriculture Ministry based on Eurostat data.
The ministry said EU imports of Moroccan tomatoes reached 187,866 tonnes in the September to December 2025 period, down 20.3 percent from the same period of the previous campaign and 5.5 percent below the five year average.
The report said the decline was partly offset by higher prices, with the average unit value of Moroccan shipments rising 22.1 percent year on year and 31.5 percent above the five year average.
Morocco remained well ahead of Turkey, which held a 22.1 percent share of EU tomato imports from non EU countries. The Spanish ministry attributed the slower Moroccan campaign to accumulated cold, reduced sunshine and seed supply problems.
