Royal Air Maroc on Friday canceled all flights scheduled to Hassan I Airport in Laayoune due to a powerful storm affecting the region.
According to an informed source, the airline had planned to operate four flights to the city from Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakesh and Agadir. However, severe weather conditions, including strong winds, prevented the execution of the scheduled program.

The source said the airline initially sought to maintain its operations in hopes of an improvement in weather conditions. But as the storm persisted, the decision was made to cancel all flights at the last minute to avoid potential risks.
One flight that departed from Rabat at around 12:10 p.m. bound for Laayoune was forced to turn back while near Agadir. The crew decided to return to the departure airport after determining that safe landing conditions were not met.

The remaining flights — including a 3:25 p.m. departure from Casablanca and two additional flights scheduled from Agadir and Marrakesh at 5:00 p.m. — were also canceled, the source said, stressing that passenger and crew safety remains the airline’s top priority.
As for flights scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, the source noted that the situation remains uncertain amid ongoing weather instability. Further developments in Laayoune’s conditions will determine whether flights proceed as planned or face additional cancellations.
