Morocco captain Romain Saiss has announced his retirement from international football, ending a long spell with the Atlas Lions during which he wore the armband and became a central figure of the team’s era, according to a message he posted on Instagram.
Saiss wrote that he was closing “the most beautiful chapter” of his career, saying that representing Morocco and captaining the side would remain the greatest honor of his sporting life. He thanked teammates, coaches, medical staff and other workers behind the scenes, and singled out Moroccan supporters for what he called unconditional backing that helped him overcome setbacks and reach key milestones.
He also praised institutional support for Moroccan football, citing investment in infrastructure and training. Saiss said he will remain the national team’s first supporter.
His final tournament was the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the team finished runners up.
