Four police officers were killed and 26 others injured Saturday after a bus transporting members of a mobile public order unit crashed near Sidi Ifni, according to the General Directorate of National Security.

In a statement, the agency said the bus was carrying 44 officers assigned to a mobile unit tasked with maintaining public order in Sidi Ifni.

The group was traveling to Agadir on official duty to help manage and secure a football competition when the accident occurred.

Preliminary information indicates the crash took place about 24 kilometers (15 miles) from Sidi Ifni on Saturday morning. Four deaths were recorded as an initial toll, while 26 officers were injured, including two in critical condition.

The director general of national security instructed the Agadir police prefecture and the agency’s medical and social services to closely monitor the condition of the injured officers in hospital and ensure they receive all necessary medical care and support, the statement said.

The director general also ordered that condolences and comprehensive assistance be provided to the families of the deceased.

In addition, the agency’s human resources directorate was tasked with implementing all necessary administrative measures and benefits for the victims, in accordance with the statute governing employees of the General Directorate of National Security.
