CIH Bank said that a customer who recently reported losing MAD 50,000 from her bank account was the victim of an online scam after sharing her confidential banking information with fraudsters posing as travel facilitators.
In a statement issued today following the circulation of a video on social media, the bank said the woman had been in contact with a group of individuals who claimed they could help her obtain a visa to travel to Europe.
According to the bank, the suspects convinced her to open a bank account and deposit funds before persuading her to share sensitive details, including access codes and security credentials.
Using this information, the scammers reportedly installed the bank’s mobile application on their own devices and carried out unauthorized transactions.
The statement said the fraudsters used one-time verification codes sent to the customer’s registered phone number to conduct multiple mobile top-up operations, resulting in financial losses.
CIH Bank said that its digital systems remain secure and were not compromised in the incident.
The bank warned customers against sharing personal or banking information with third parties under any circumstances.
The bank also expressed its full support for the victim, saying it is providing legal assistance and cooperating with authorities.
It said it has shared all available information with law enforcement agencies to help identify and arrest those responsible.
